Built on conversations, connection & creativity
Afurotaku began as a podcast exploring what it means to be an African Otaku in Botswana. Today, it has grown into a community-driven platform connecting anime, manga, gaming, cosplay, and Japanese pop culture enthusiasts across Botswana and beyond.
Through engaging discussions, community events, and creative collaborations, we create spaces where fans can share ideas, discover new experiences, celebrate their passions, and build lasting friendships.
Whether online or in person, Afurotaku exists to strengthen the culture and bring the fandom together.
Whoever you are, there's a seat on the ship.
Whether you've been watching anime since the VHS era or you're discovering your very first series, there's a place for you here.
Afurotaku is built on respect, curiosity, and shared passion, not gatekeeping. Every fan, creator, gamer, cosplayer, artist, and newcomer deserves a community where they can connect, learn, and celebrate what they love.
No matter your age, background, or experience level, you’re one of us.
To build Botswana's premier anime and Japanese pop culture convention while establishing the country's strongest creative ecosystem for otaku culture.
We envision a future where local creators, artists, gamers, cosplayers, businesses, and international partners come together under one platform: showcasing African creativity alongside global entertainment and placing Botswana firmly on the map as a destination for Japanese pop culture in Southern Africa.
To elevate the African Otaku experience by building meaningful connections, empowering creativity, and growing a vibrant community where anime, manga, gaming, and cosplay can thrive.
We achieve this through three guiding pillars.
Authentic Conversations
Sharing real stories, perspectives, and experiences that reflect what it truly means to be an African Otaku.
Community First
Creating welcoming spaces where friendships grow through events, gaming, cosplay, podcasts, and shared experiences.
Creative Expression
Championing local artists, creators, cosplayers, gamers, writers, and innovators by giving their work the audience it deserves.
Cultural Connection
Celebrating Japanese pop culture through an African perspective while encouraging collaboration between communities, creators, and cultures.
Growing the Movement
Expanding the visibility and influence of Botswana's anime community while inspiring the next generation of fans and creators.
Every episode, every event, every conversation is a step toward making Japanese pop culture a recognised, celebrated part of Botswana's cultural landscape.

🎙️ Afurotaku Podcast – Season Finale 🎙️ Episode Title: Are Otakus Athletic? 🏃♂️✨ For our last episode of the season, the whole crew comes together to settle a long-standing debate: 👉 Can otakus actually be athletic, or are we forever stuck on the couch binging anime?
Our Original OVA: Afurotaku’s Own Anime Story
For the first time ever, the Afurotaku crew steps out of reviewer mode and into creator mode! Hosts Kireyou , Kevin , Kuki(Hentai Senpai) , kenny kohai and Cozan craft their own original OVA plot (characters, world-building, twists, and all) while weaving in an unexpected theme: the Olympic Games . Listen as they brainstorm on the fly, debate wild story arcs, and imagine how anime’s energy and the spirit of the Olympics can collide in one unforgettable concept. It’s part improv, part celebration of creativity, and all Afurotaku.
