Built on conversations, connection & creativity

Our story

Today, Afurotaku is a community-driven platform connecting anime, manga, gaming, cosplay and Japanese pop culture enthusiasts across Botswana and beyond. What started as a handful of friends recording conversations turned into events, a growing online community and a crew of volunteers who show up because they want to, not because they have to.

Through engaging discussions, community events and creative collaborations, we create spaces where fans can share ideas, discover new experiences, celebrate their passions and build lasting friendships.

Whether online or in person, Afurotaku exists to strengthen the culture and bring the fandom together.

Our vision · ビジョン

To build a lasting home in Botswana for anime and Japanese pop culture events while establishing the country's strongest creative ecosystem for otaku culture.

We envision a future where local creators, artists, gamers, cosplayers, businesses, and international partners come together under one platform: showcasing African creativity alongside global entertainment and placing Botswana firmly on the map as a destination for Japanese pop culture in Southern Africa.

Our mission · ミッション
